Animal Shelter – Getting it right GCSE Animal Shelter – Getting it right

Sources Table Activity 1a (Worth 10 Marks)

Where are your source tables? After going through your work, some of you are making simple mistakes which are costing you valuable marks (this could be the difference between passing or failing!!) Not updating your table – you must constantly add to it throughout the coursework (it will be a massive table by the end) Having multiple copies of the same table – hard to work out which is which Not saving the source table in the development folder

Exam board view on source tables? “Students must acknowledge all their sources - even those they decide not to use. They should justify their choice of sources and explain the reasons for using them. All sources should be fully referenced. Simply stating “The internet” or giving Google as the source is not sufficient.”

Get into the habit!! Information source: What is the URL or name of book? (you can use lots of info sources i.e. magazines, posters, own knowledge – don’t just restrict it to the internet) P or S: Primary or secondary? Description: What is this information about? Explanation: How/why/where or [why didn’t] you use this information? – justification here is key

Don’t forget the asset table!! You need to list any media assets you looked at in your research in the assets table. This includes music, images, video, graphics, banners etc. For example - the images you included in your digital poster would need to go into this table You don’t need to fill in “details of permission” unless you re-used the actual media.

Key words Royalty Free – this means that no one owns the copyright to the image Copyright – means that you need to get permission to re-use it Creative Commons – you can re-use it, but it might have conditions i.e. education only etc.. www.commons.wikimedia.org Attribution – this is who made the media i.e. images, sound etc..

Animal Shelter Logo, Web Banner and Digital Poster

Simple Mistakes… The main focus of the Animal Shelter CAB is to persuade people to donate, sponsor or volunteer NOT to adopt (some of you talk about adoption in your poster and web banner) The logo should be only two colours (some of you have three colours) and exported as a jpeg The web banner should include the logo and be set up so it runs as a loop. It also be exported as a SWF The digital poster needs to be saved as a SHOW (so it loops) and contain contact info, logo and persuasive language about volunteering (some of you are missing this out)

Animal Shelter Activity Reviews

Getting it right… The main bulk of your marks will come from the Activity Review write ups – they are key to gaining high marks – don’t get lazy with – take your time and make sure you answer the questions in detail. Remember you must Define (say what you did) Explain (describe in detail how you did it – what tools did you use etc..) Justify (explain why you did what you did i.e. I chose the colour blue because..)

Getting it right… The feedback section in the reviews (from your test buddy and me) is the gateway to accessing MB3. The MB states that you must show clear evidence of ‘Reviewing and modifying your work and show how feedback from others has improved the outcome’ In your review, you must talk about the whole process from start to finish i.e. I started by doing research and my initial design was.. How ever after feedback I then did this…. On reflection by acting on the feedback it meant that ……
