The Parts of a Flower NEXT

Flower Parts  Flowers are important in making seeds. Flowers can be made up of different parts, but there are some parts that are basic equipment. The main flower parts are the male part called the stamen and the female part called the pistil.  Other important parts of a flower are the petals, and sepals. NEXT

The Stamen  The stamen has two parts: anthers and filaments.  The anthers are a yellow, pouch-like part inside of the flower that holds pollen grains.  The filament is a thread- like part of the flower that holds up the anthers. NEXT

The Pistil  The pistil has four parts: stigma, style, ovary, and ovules.  The stigma is the sticky surface at the top of a pistil that traps and holds the pollen.  The style is the tube-like structure that holds up the stigma. The style leads down to the ovary that contains the ovules. Pollen tube is inside the style.  The ovary is usually at the base of the flower and has seeds inside that turn into the fruit that we sometimes eat.  The ovules are the part of the ovary that becomes the seed. NEXT

The Petals and Sepals  Petals attract pollinators and are usually the reason why we buy and enjoy flowers. They are the colorful, pretty parts of the flowers.  Sepals are the green petal-like parts at the base of the flower and help protect the developing bud. NEXT
