Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Agenda  Creating a Course Catalog  Reviewing locking options  Creating Course Masters  Assign a Course Catalog to a school  Using Course Catalogs  Policy and Procedures  Review

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Objectives  Create a course catalog  Understand the implications of locking course information  Learn to create Course Masters  Assign a catalog to a school  Learn how to use the Course Catalog  Discuss policy and procedures  Review

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Create a Course Catalog Name catalogs based on the type of school (i.e. elementary, middle, or high school). Determine what course information will be NOT be available to edit by schools.

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Advantages of a Catalog: 1. Locking course information allows the district to maintain consistency between schools with respect to course offerings. 2. Improves productivity by reducing duplicate course creation (i.e. all three high schools creating an Algebra 1 course). 3. Locking the State Code preserves data integrity by reducing the number of incorrect codes appearing when pulling this information for State Reporting. 4. The district will be able to analyze course data across schools.

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Disadvantages of a Catalog: 1. Creating a course catalog will not permit schools to create a course “on the fly”. A process will need to be in place for a school to request an additional course be added by the district to the course catalog. 2. Increases the work load of district personnel as the district will now be responsible for course maintenance and creation. 3. Locking the course description reduces a schools ability to customize information provided in the portal for online registration.

Locking Course Catalogs: Districts have the option of locking down any or all of the following course information fields in Campus:  Course Number  Course Name  State Code  Course Description  All additional course fields  Grading and Standard Tasks

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Locking Course Catalogs:  Locking all other course master fields should NOT be checked if this information is different for any schools assigned to this catalog.  Locking Grading and Standard tasks should NOT be checked if schools have different grading tasks due to term structure or school-based standards.

Creating Course Masters Adding course masters to a catalog will create a collapsible tree structure in Grading & Standards > Course Catalogs  Grading and Standard Tasks still need be added either at the school or district level to the course masters.  Scheduling information still needs to be added to the course tab at the school level.  Sections still need to be added at the school level.

Course Master Grading Tasks & Standards Path: Grading & Standards > Course Masters OR Go to the search tab and select Course Masters from the drop-down list then narrow your search as needed. Assign Grading and/or Standards Tasks to each Course Master either at the district (if tasks and standards are locked) If standards and tasks are not locked, they may be assigned at the school level.

Assign a Course Catalog to a school System Admin > Resources > School As soon as a Course Catalog is assigned to a school, only the course masters assigned to this Course Catalog will be available for a school to add in Scheduling>Add Course.

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Added Course – school level changes. Scheduling information still needs to be added to the course tab at the school level.  Priority  Max Students  Terms, Schedules, Periods  Attendance  Allow Requests

Copyright © 2006, Infinite Campus, Inc. All rights reserved. Policy and Procedures Examples of some questions that will need to be addressed: Will current courses be added to course masters? If so, When? How? What course information will be locked? Who will make these decisions? Who will communicate this change to schools? How will schools request courses to be added to the Course Catalog? When will school personnel be trained on how to use the Course Catalog to add courses to their schools calendar?
