Picasso and Matisse Musical Themes

Picasso was baptized Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Crispiniano de la Santísima Trinidad, a series of names honoring various saints and relatives. Added to these were Ruiz and Picasso, for his father and mother, respectively, as per Spanish law.

Cubism is the 20 th century art movement that emphasizes structure and design. Three-dimensional objects are pictured from many different viewpoints at the same time.

Cubism characteristics/goals: Away from mere observation abstraction Away from form flattened shapes Away from perspective invented space Away from optical color expressive color Away from Renaissance naturalism the free use of elements and principles of art/design

Collage is the process of pasting bits of newspapers, ribbons and other objects onto paper or canvas. The term "collage" was coined by Picasso and Braque. Picasso created collages from 1907 to Although collage is attributed as an extension of sorts to the artist's works done in Cubist style, neither Picasso nor Braque ever indicated what motivated them to begin pasting bits of newspaper and other found objects onto their canvases.

From 1912 to 1914, Synthetic Cubist (collage) works emerged from Picasso's canvases. During this time, the artists toyed with the traditional flat picture plane, incorporating both two- and three-dimensional elements, but after 1914 neither Picasso nor Braque worked in collage again.
