Unit 1 Week 6 Animal Park

Day 1 Street Rhymes! Tall giraffes with spotted skin, Monkeys that can make you grin, Panda bears with black and white faces, Elephants from far-off places. I like seals and tigers too. My favorite animals are at the zoo. Question of the week: What can we learn about wild animals by watching them? Build Oral Language: One thing we can learn by watching animals is how they move. How is the snake in the picture moving? (wriggling). Let’s add We learn how animals move and wriggling to our map. The animal in the tree is a tarsier. How can it move? (It can climb.) Let’s add climb to our map.

Phonemic Awareness Rhyming words: Remember that rhyming words are words that end with the same sounds. Lets find two things that rhyme with trust. When I look at the picture, I see a crust of bread, and I see some old trucks with rust on them. Crust and rust rhyme with trust. If some of the notes are about other animals or other things I observed, I will cross them out. I will also check my spelling. If a word is not spelled correctly, I will write the word again with the correct spelling. Have children look at the notes they made during Day 3.
