4 Day 1 This week we will talk, sing, and write about how animals help people. How do animals help people?

5 Build Oral Language Look at the cow in the picture. Cows produce, or make, milk. How does a cow’s milk help people? Transportation is a way to move from place to place. What does the picture of horses have to do with transportation? In the past, oxen like the ones in the picture helped farmers plow fields so crops could be grown. Why didn’t the farmer do this by himself?

8 Amazing Words Oxen used to pull wagons that were used for transportation. Transportation is a way to move people or things from one place to another. Long ago, people rode horses or sailed on ships for transportation. Today many people use a car as their main type of transportation. Some children ride the school bus for transportation every day. Name some forms of transportation you have used.

9 How did these oxen help people? Why were oxen used on farms in the past? Think about present farms. What is used instead of oxen? Name three things that a farm may produce.
