Q4: Who would be the audience for your media product? By Brandon Jewell

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE First of all, the narrative for our film is complicated and not completely straight forward in some places. This is because of the occasional switches between flashback and the present, and unusual but exciting clues and hints! But overall it is still all-round an easy complex, and not one that isn't common in mainstream Thriller. Because of this our target audience is fairly wide, although younger audiences may find it difficult to follow. On top of this, some of the content would most likely result in our film being rated ages 15+ by the BBFC anyway, so it fits in well. The main audience age wise for our film would probably be the majority of people ages 15 and above. In terms of gender both male and female audiences should have the same appeal, but it is argued that because of the main character being a teenage girl, that females in particular may be attracted to the film.

Although the overall targeted audiences are all ages 15 and above, the film is more likely to attract the younger side of that audience, say ages This is primarily because of the young teenage protagonist who’s life is followed by the narrative. Younger people are more likely to find associating themselves with her character and the life she leads, but the end twist may alter this perception slightly. Again this limits the audience down, meaning box office takings as well, but hopefully the ending twist and dark modern style with build up of suspense would offer the potential for people to want to see the film again for a second time at the cinema. Another point is that the film narrative is driven a lot around the use of the mobile phones. From a stereotypical point of view, older audiences may find it harder to understand with the use of these mobile phones as this in particular is a recent bit of technology (the Iphone). This might bring the attraction right down for older audiences if they can not be bothered to follow along if they do not fully understand the way the phones are being used.

OTHER SIMILAR FILMS... One film which we all felt was similar in regards to the narrative and ending of the film is the film: Shutter Island. The main way Shutter Island attracted audiences was through the stars and marketing of the film. The director of the film was Martin Scorsese who is a massive name in the filming industry as he has won an incredible amount of awards for his films. This would have attracted audiences straight away. Also Leonardo De Caprio plays the main character and is also very well known for his acting roles. Despite all of this, the style and mood of the psychological Thriller really draws you in through trailers, and being based on a recent Novel also encouraged readers to watch the film. FILM RATING Judging by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) ratings. It is most likely that the film would be rated at 15. This is for a number of different elements. Language – The use of strong language would be fairly frequently present within our film at parts. And mostly would be used in aggressive terms because of events/circumstances in the film. The BBFC age 12 guidelines state that ‘There may be strong language (eg 'f***') at 12 or 12A, but it must be infrequent. The context of the strong language is important. Aggressive uses of strong language may result in a film or DVD being placed at the 15 category.’ Because of this language wise our film would be placed under age 15 rating. Violence – The violence when present would be fairly strong, especially at the end when it runs through what really happened at certain killing events. As well as this, graphic scenes such as a hanging suicide would be shown in detail, and because of the life-like psychiological style of the film this could not be passed off as a 12/12A rating. BBFC 15 rated guidelines:

TARGET AUDIENCE MEMBER Brands Hobbies/interests Films Television Reading (Mags and Newspapers)

AUDIENCE MEMBER REPRESENTATION Male member: James Cooper is a 25 year old man. He lives with his girlfriend in central London. He currently works at a close-by RBS Branch bank, and is currently training to be a bank manager. He always has to dress smart for work (Suit and tie), meaning that he never finds it too hard to flash himself up a bit when out and about. He’s very good at keeping up with the fashion and isn’t afraid to treat himself to something from the Fred Perry or Prada shop. Mostly he shops at Topman, River Island and Abercrombie and Fitch. He always likes to keep himself in shape with some sports and frequent visits to the gym with friends. He and his girlfriend always like to go out for some drinks and a nice meal and when he feels like it he always buys her a little surprise gift from the shops. He loves Thriller films such as Se7en or Taken, but also loves a bit of action and sci-fi, such as: Transformers, Iron Man, The Dark Knight etc. His favourite television is usually just watching Sky Movies, Crime documentaries, Family Guy, Repeats of Skins, Typical Reality shows (I’m A Celeb), and the occasional Grand Designs. He likes most forms of music apart from Heavy Rock and classical music.
