LANGUAGE ARTS This week our theme will be “Pets”. We will discuss the many different types of pets that we have in our family and how we care for them. We will review all previously taught high frequency words: I, a, we, can, and the. We will also review the vowel “a.” Our “Wonderful Words” for discussion this week include occasion, change, celebrate, eager, and relatives. The students will continue journal writing using pictures and words using inventive spelling. CHECK OUT THIS FUN WEBSITE … In class, your child has been introduced to the interactive phonics and reading website, If you have Internet access, please explore this engaging website with your child. It is also a great way to improve hand/eye coordination and motor skills. Have fun! MATH: Our focus continues to be the calendar and its concepts. We will practice writing the date, and we will explore manipulatives. In unit one we will focus on numbers to 10 and the counting sequence to 20. Students will use manipulatives as tools for math. They will represent a number of objects with a written numeral. Students will use one-to-one correspondence as they count objects, and they will make comparisons of different sets of objects by using greater than, less than, and equal to. Announcements: **Grandparent’s Day: We invite all KINDERGARTEN GRANDPARENTS or a special adult to attend our MES Grandparents’ Day celebration on Tuesday, September 15th. See the following schedule for The appropriate times: 1:15-2:00 Wetekamm and Krogsgard’s Classes 2:15-3:00 Turner, Cascio, and Brenner’s Classes Please remind grandparents of the following: -- PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY to avoid a long check in line at the front desk or on the side of the gym. -- They must have their ID to check in. -- They will have the opportunity to join the PTA for $6.00, which includes a keepsake photo. ** THE MES CAFETERIA WILL BE OPEN to parents beginning SEPTEMBER 21 st. Our Kindergarteners eat lunch from 10:50-11:15. In order to eat lunch with your child, you will need to check in at the front office, and then wait at The lunch room door for your student. The children then go out to recess on the playground from 11:15-11:35. For safety purposes, please note that parents are not allowed on the playground during this time. **SAVE THE DATE: OPEN HOUSE IS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 nd, ** BOOK FAIR : Book Fair is scheduled for the week of September 21 st -25 th. Our class will have the opportunity to shop during our normal library time scheduled for THURSDAY 2:55-3:40. Book Fair will also be open during MES Open House. ** Art Banner Contest: The City of Mandeville is holding its annual Art Banner Contest for all Mandeville students in K - 6th grade. The winning entries will be featured as 2015 Winter on the Water & Holiday Banners to be displayed on Girod Street. This year’s theme is, "Mandeville, Home for the Holidays". Due to privacy laws, parents must turn in their child's entry directly to Mandeville City Hall by the deadline of October 9, The entry form will come home in your child's take-home folder soon or you may get an entry form from Mandeville City Hall. We will be discussing and sharing these during our weekly carpet time together. HOMEWORK **Homework should not exceed 15 minutes daily and should be completed in the RED TAKE HOME FOLDER. **Log books read on your Bookworm & send in when completed! ** Send your child’s HW to school every FRIDAY for checking and a treat! Talk about the characters and setting of the story. Was there a problem in the story? How did the characters solve the problem? Draw a picture about the story. Use lots of details and color. Try to label 2 things in your picture. Example: If you draw the sun label it with the word sun.
