1 FIRST GRADE EXPECTATIONS AND HOMEWORK ORIENTATION BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 9, 2014

2 WELCOME! The First Grade Team at Ardenwood strives to build whole children. The academic and social development of your children is our focus. We thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to learn about our expectations so that you can help to make this year successful for your First Grader.

3 HOMEWORK OVERVIEW First Grade homework will start next week, September 15, 2014. Homework goes home on Monday and is due back completed that Friday. Your child should spend 10-30 minutes each day on the paper pencil portion of the homework. An additional 10 minutes of reading is also required. It is YOUR responsibility to check your child’s homework for accuracy and completeness. You must sign the Homework Verification form each week. Reading logs must also be signed by a parent. 1 st Grade HW folders are Green!

4 HOMEWORK FOLDER CONTENTS -Cover Sheet -Monthly Homework Calendar (This will list HW assignments for each day) -Sound/Spelling Cards -Homework pages for the week Math Pages – We will send home a packet of math homework pages for the month. It is your responsibility to keep this packet safe. Your child should only complete the pages listed on the HW calendar for the week and turn those in. Should you lose the packet, you can download copies from the First Grade Webpage under “Homework”. Writing - We will provide the writing pages for the week. Please check the calendar to see what pages your child should do each night. Spelling – We will provide the list of the weekly spelling words and activities for the week will be listed on the HW calendar. Reading – Your child will need to read for a minimum of 10 minutes daily. This can include being read to. Reading logs for the week will be included for you and your child to sign. Signatures let us know your child did the required reading for the week.
