Mrs. Millsaps Room 112

I grew up in Wilkesboro, North Carolina I attended Wilkes Community College where I received my Associate in Art Degree. I then went onto the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I received my Bachelors Degree in English as well as my teaching certificate. I now live in Wilkesboro with my husband Daniel, and our dog Chance!

 I worked with middle school kids in an after school program when I was in high school. I also tutored for Wilkes Central High School in the areas of Math and English.  I also worked in retail while I was in high school. When I was in college I worked at an independently owned pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.  I have been working since I was 16

It is my goal to provide a unique learning experience for every child where they learn how to associate their own experiences with some of the historical texts that we will be reading over the course of the semester. By providing an organized approach to literature it is my hope that as a class we will be able to respectfully discuss texts so that we learn from one another in an open environment.

 I will always try to give you notice if I will not be in class on any particular day. If not there is a good reason.  I will always be organized!  When you turn in your homework or a test expect to get it back the next day.  Homework is a participation grade that will only help you. If you do it you will be rewarded.  Expect me to be in my classroom 30 minutes before school starts and at least an hour after school is over to help you whenever you need it. Please try to give me notice if you need me for a specific reason.  If 90% of the class makes an A on my test we will have cookies the next day, guaranteed!

Students should have regular participation and attendance to class. Please come to class prepared to take notes, discuss readings, and do group activities. There will be two papers assigned over the course of the semester that we be equal to 40% of your final grade. These papers will have outlined rubrics so that students will know exactly what is expected. Homework should be completed and turned in the day it is due. There are no excuses because assignments for the semester will be given to you the first day of class. Students should be prepared to ask questions and communicate any and all needs to the teacher and/or peers. I expect every student to try their personal best. I do not accept anything less!

 I have an open door policy and I love it when parents use it! I pride myself on always being available to parents whenever I am needed.  My office hours are from 11:00- 12:15 please feel free to call me then or on my cell phone whenever it is convenient.  If I feel that a student is having problems I will personally contact the parent and try to work out something to help the student with the help of me and a parent/guardian.
