True Colors Independent Living

What is True Colors? A career finding technique that helps you: –Discover your true talents –Create a positive, clear self-image –Overcome fears that block success –Maximize your unique strengths –Determine your ideal career

Finding Your True Colors Look at the four True Colors cards Analyze the pictures on the front and read the words on the back Each card represents a part of your personality Set aside the card that best captures who you are not who you wish to be! Next select the card that is least like you

Finding Your True Colors Rank in order the other two cards so that the four color cards are arranged in order from most like you to least like you.

What it all means Your first color represents the characteristics that you relate to most strongly. These are your strengths Your second color will influence how you go about expressing your first color. You will see less of yourself in the third and fourth colors. Your fourth color representing weaknesses or things you do not do well. The combination of your first two colors will have a big impact on your career decisions.

Extroversion vs. Introversion Extroverts: People who are very outgoing, love talking to people and being out in public. –Tend to be blues and oranges Introverts: People who don’t like to talk much and like to be alone. –Tend to be golds and greens

Self Esteem Finding a career that fits your identity (instead of trying to fit your identity into a job) will allow you to express your true self and build your self esteem. If you choose a career path that doesn’t fit your identity you feel as if you don’t fit in and don’t live up to your full potential. The best way to raise your self esteem is to DO WHAT YOU LOVE!!!!!

Why some people hate their jobs….. They take a career they stumble into rather than using their talents They are working too hard because their job duties are requiring them to use their weaknesses more than their strengths.

What Greens need to be happy and have positive self esteem Need to feel competent and in control. Solving complex problems and receiving recognition. Acquiring and controlling knowledge What TV shows do you think they watch?

What Blues need to be happy and have positive self esteem Need to feel authentic or true to themselves. Life dream is to have a meaningful life and live in harmony. Need to have meaningful relationships. What TV shows do you think Blues like?

What Oranges need to be happy and have positive self esteem Need to be spontaneous and impulsive. Do things for the joy of doing them. Highly skilled at a lot of things Master negotiators Always looking for an adventure. What TV shows do you think they enjoy?

What Golds need to be happy and have positive self esteem Need to feel responsible and belong to a social unit. Cherish traditions and order in the home. Parental by nature, want to maintain order in the house and make sure everyone is following rules. What TV shows do you think they enjoy?

Self Actualization Self actualization is the state of being, not blocked or full of fear, where life is lived naturally, happily and freely as we achieve our goals and reach our potential. Ultimate goal is to reach self actualization. When you reach this point you meet your full potential.
