About the Program A non-threatening atmosphere where students will work on reading and writing strategies Students are currently being assessed to pinpoint specific areas of weaknesses. Students will receive an individualized program based on their needs

Assessments Being Used to Determine Individualized Program CARS (Comprehensive Assessment of Reading Strategies) Writing Prompts Reading Fluency Running Record Assessments Data collected from last year

Writing Plan of Action Based on Needs Scaffold instruction provided in persuasive, explanatory, narrative, open-ended and research writing with individualized teacher conferencing Improving writing stamina Spelling and grammar Understanding and applying the components of revising and editing to writing pieces

Reading Plan of Action Based on Needs Analyze the following comprehension skills and strategies in novels: conflict, resolution, character traits, theme, setting Improving reading stamina and fluency Comprehension and analysis of text features in both fiction and non-fiction writing Reader’s Response Journals

No more homework! This class does not put on the additional stress of having homework for another class Students may bring their class papers and novels to class for help We are in constant contact with your child’s team reading and writing teachers and are aware of ongoing projects Independent work rubric completed every two weeks
