2. Your student will be setting goals to master the following skills: In math your student will:  Work with the base 10 system  Mentally add and subtract within 100  Solve word problems using various strategies  Explore geometric shapes  Represent and interpret data using graphs  Work with time and money In ELA your student will:  Read fiction and non-fiction texts  Ask and answer questions before,  during, and after reading  Recount and retell  Describe characters  Describe how words add meaning to a story/poem  Use text features  Identify authors purpose In writing your student will:  Write opinion, information, personal narratives, and creative narratives.  Revise, edit, and publish In Science your student will:  Explore sound, matter, weather and life cycles In Social Studies your student will:  Explore maps, needs and wants, supply and demand, goods and services, producers and consumers, citizenship, and historical figures.

3. How can you help! Read with your student every night! Ask questions: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Building fluency and comprehension is very important! Encourage your student to write about what they are reading! Have your student practice their math facts! Building fluency with these is vital to adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers.

4. Assessments: We will have common assessments in literacy and math every 6 weeks. TRC and MAPs will be beginning, middle, and end of the year.

5. Homework, agenda, and communication All 2 nd grade teachers use the agenda for daily communication with parents. Each teacher will address homework expectations for their classroom. Each teacher will address web page or newsletters.
