TEAM HANDBALL History: Created in Germany in 1890’s for the training of gymnasts. Two versions: 11 man outdoor game and a 7 man indoor game. The indoor game has been an Olympic sport since 1972.

TEAM HANDBALL Players: Two teams of seven players Each team has a goalie who must stay in the goalie area (arc). Each team has two guards and must stay on the defensive half. Each team has two forwards, they must go to the fore court and play offense. Each team has two centers, their job is to play offense and defense

TEAM HANDBALL Scoring: Each goal is worth one (1) point. You cannot score if you are inside the goalie box. You may score by throwing the ball past the goalie and into the goal. It is okay to use your head, forearm, or elbow. Your shot must originate from behind the shooting arc. You may not kick or knee the ball past the goalie.

TEAM HANDBALL Starting the game: Play starts with a coin toss. The game starts with a throw off. The person putting the ball into play can pass the ball in any direction but must do so within three seconds. All defensive players must be at least three feet from the person putting the ball in play.

TEAM HANDBALL Playing the ball: The ball can be moved in a variety of ways: The most efficient way is passing it to a teammate. Players may take a maximum of three steps without traveling. Players may dribble the ball only three times in succession. Players may not kick the ball. Players may not hold, push, run into, jump into or endanger an opponent. Players may not pull, hit, or use their fist to force the ball out of an opponents hands.
