Reflexology Workshop Level 2 Complementary Therapy

What is Zone Therapy? A holistic treatment- It can be carried out on the feet, hands and ears Helps to balance out energy pathways by applying pressure to corresponding areas in the feet, hands and ears.

History of Zone Therapy Reflexology dates back to ancient civilizations such as Egypt, India and China, but this therapy was only introduced to the West in the early ………….. Century. The oldest documentation of Reflexology comes from a pictograph in the tomb of an ………………… Physician Ankhmahor ( B.C.) at Saqquara near Cairo.

Continued.. In ………………. there is evidence of some form of foot and hand therapy being practiced as long ago as 4,000 B.C., and the North American Indians have practised a form of foot therapy for hundreds of years. Dr William Fitzgerald and Eunice Ingham are responsible for the Reflexology that we do now.

What are Zones? A Zone is a channel of the body that runs from the top of the head down through the arms and hands, legs and feet. There are …….. longitudinal zones, …… on each side of the body. Each zone corresponds to fingers and toes which provides a simple numbering system. The most central zone is number ….. and then it works out to ……. as you go outwards. There are also horizontal lines, known as the transverse zones. These three zones are; shoulder, waist and pelvic.

Continued.. ……………………………………………………in a particular zone are all connected. Hence, if there is an imbalance in the zone, it could have a knock on effect. It is believed that all parts within the same zone have a effect on each other and that ………………………..should flow freely through that zone.

How does it work? Reflexologists feel the patient’s feet with their ………………………………………………….. Skilled Reflexologists believe they can sense ………………………………………………..and tensions in the reflex arc. This is usually a pleasant sensation for the client, though it can sometimes locate tender areas. The Reflexologist then applies gentle but firm pressure with fingers and thumbs to ease areas of tension and alleviate ……………………………..

Continued.. Clinical experience of reflexology shows us that the effects are felt not only on the ……………, but more importantly in the corresponding major bodily organ. In this way Reflexologists consider that the foot may be used to remotely activate healing processes in other vital bodily organs re- balancing the systems of the body.

Massage mediums The therapist must select an appropriate medium for the client. For example, if a client has dry feet, a cream or a lotion will aid more movement as well as helping with the condition. You may also have a preferred medium which you like to use. Try the following movement to see which you prefer: good for oily skins or client who don’t like the feel of oils or creams initially light and silky which then transform into a light powder Are heavier and greasier, are suitable for dry skins.
