Our school day is from 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. The building opens at 7:30 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 a.m. We do a lot of hands on activities, discussion and learning every day! So if your child has to be absent, the best thing that they can do is read! We will get them back on track once they return.

In Writer’s and Reader’s workshop students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing and oral language. Students should come to 2 nd grade reading on a J level and leave reading on a M level.

We will be focusing on the many ways to show leadership. Social Studies will be integrated into Language Arts.

Recess time is 10:45-11:15 We like to take the kids outside weather permitting, so please make sure your child is dressed accordingly.

Our lunch time is from 11:15-11:45 We do love having visitors, but we ask that you sit with your child at our reserved parent tables. This will allow you to enjoy your lunch with your child!

Specials are from 1:55-2:50

We will be using a lot of notebooks this year to record our thoughts and to complete activities. We will also be doing a lot of hands on activities, therefore there will not be a lot of graded work coming home. You are more than welcome to come to school and take a look at your child’s notebooks anytime.

*Organization *Communication *Please initial in the yellow box each night. This will let us know that you saw how your child did that day. * It is your child’s job to check their Star Binder and give any notes to the teacher every morning.

All second graders will be taking these tests in the spring. Results will be shared when they come in.

*100 Minutes of reading each week *Math homework *Be looking for Poem in my Pocket and *Friday One Page Reports *READ, READ, READ!!!

*Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held in October. More information will be coming home soon. * is a good way to contact your child’s teacher with any concerns. Please put your child’s name as the subject. Due to a district filter, we might not receive your , so if your is not responded to in 24 hours, please call. *You can also check your child’s teacher’s webpage for information at

*No backless shoes (flip-flops included) *No halters or spaghetti straps *Please refer to the Student Handbook

Please send in a note or call the office if your child’s transportation changes. If we don’t receive a note, your child will go home their usual way. This is for the safety of your child.

As we enter our 3 rd week of school, the students are becoming familiar with the procedures and routines of 2 nd grade. This would be a great time to begin letting your child enter the building on their own. This will foster independence that will be very beneficial to them. Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

for taking the time to attend Curriculum Night! We look forward to working with you and your child this year. It is going to be a wonderful year filled with exciting learning activities!
