Carpe Diem NJHS Information for potential candidates in NJHS for

STEPS TO SELECTION PROCESS 1. Student Activity Form- completed and turned in on time (does not guarantee automatic acceptance) (due date = Thursday, March 6 th to the front office by 4:00 pm- no late forms will be accepted)

STEPS TO SELECTION PROCESS 2. Evaluations of each student by teachers- Leadership, Character, Citizenship, and Service as observed in the classroom and hallways all semester. (need to get 90% of total possible points) Ms. Nix will get evaluation forms to your teachers- not you.

STEPS TO SELECTION PROCESS 3. Faculty Council reviews scores and Student Activity Form to determine acceptance or non-selection into Bailey’s NJHS.

STEPS TO SELECTION PROCESS 4. A letter will be mailed out in April with notification of your acceptance or non-selection. The acceptance letter will include instructions for the signing of a contract and payment of an induction fee to be accepted as a member. Non-selected candidates will NOT be given specific comments or ratings. However, they may be eligible for NJHS next year.

STEPS TO SELECTION PROCESS 5. Inductee (accepted candidates) meeting on Monday, April 28 th, 2014 in the cafeteria from 3:30-4:00pm to go over the procedures and practice for the Induction ceremony. 6. Induction ceremony to be held on May 1 st at 7:00 pm in the large gym with a reception immediately following in the cafeteria.

Carpe Diem NJHS Requirements for current (accepted) members: 6 th graders are not considered current members until they are in the 7 th grade.

Requirements for NJHS (once accepted as a member) Citizenship: Attend meetings- held once a month usually after school for 30 minutes. Min. needed= three per semester. You will be assigned to a Co-Sponsor group for most meetings. Listen for announcements on BTV and look at calendar on NJHS website.

Requirements for NJHS (once accepted as a member) Scholarship: must maintain a GPA every six weeks Failure to maintain GPA will result in probation.

Requirements for NJHS (once accepted as a member) Service: Must complete 4 hours per semester for a total of 8 hours. (Hours completed in the summer do not count (except for first day packets and transition camp). Extra hours completed in the fall semester do not carry over to the spring semester. You may count hours completed with other groups).

Requirements for NJHS (once accepted as a member) Leadership/Character: Set a good example for others by following all school and district rules. Appropriate behavior on campus and at all school functions is mandatory.

Requirements for NJHS (once accepted as a member) Probation/Dismissal: Failure to abide by any of these requirements will result in being placed on probationary status (not considered an active member). (May only be placed on probation twice; the third offense may result in permanent dismissal from NJHS. Serious offenses such as being placed in ISS, home suspended or removed to ALC may result in immediate and permanent dismissal from NJHS without the probationary period).

GOOD LUCK! If you are still interested in being considered for membership into NJHS, don’t forget to pick up a Student Activity Form before leaving today. Forms are due to the front office by Thursday, March 6 th by 4:00 pm. No late forms will be accepted!
