4 ARTICLE IV ObligationsARTICLE IV In summary, chapter members are required to 1.maintain the high ideals of the NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character 2.attend and participate in induction and investiture ceremonies 3.attend and participate in monthly chapter meetings. 4.submit a reason in writing to the adviser for missing a meeting and after the meeting find out what business was covered and their responsibilities 5.serve on two standing committees annually

5 ARTICLE IV Obligations continuedARTICLE IV 6.assist with and support all NHS activities whenever possible, with a minimum of three per year 7.complete 10 hours of documented service per quarter, at school, home, church or in the community and file a service hour report at the close of the quarter, 8.design and complete an Independent Service project annually (based on end of school year). – キ The project should be an individual project and take a minimum of 10 hours to complete. – キ Submit an ISP proposal to the adviser prior to starting the project for approval. – キ Submit an ISP report within 2 weeks of completing the project. – キ Officers and committee chairs can submit their extra work as their ISP proposal and report.

8 So What… ARTICLE III MembershipARTICLE III Section 2. If students fail to maintain qualities of scholarship, character, leadership, and service the Executive Committee shall question their membership. If the qualities are decided to be lacking in a member, the Faculty Council shall question their membership.

11 ARTICLE XDiscipline and Dismissal Section 1. The Faculty Council in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Honor Society shall determine the procedure for dismissal or disciplinary action. A written description of the dismissal procedure shall be available to interested parties. Section 2. Members who fall below the standards that were the basis for their selection shall be promptly warned in writing by the chapter adviser and given a reasonable amount of time (as determined by the Faculty Council) to correct the deficiency. Except that in the case of flagrant violation of school rules or the law, a member does not necessarily have to be warned. Section 3. The Faculty Council shall determine when an individual has exceeded a reasonable number of warnings.

12 ARTICLE XDiscipline and Dismissal Section 4. In all cases of pending dismissal, a member shall have a right to a hearing before the Faculty Council. This hearing is required and is considered "due process" for all members. Section 5. For purposes of dismissal, a majority vote of the Faculty Council is required. Section 6. A member who has been dismissed may appeal the decision of the Faculty Council to the principal and thereafter under the same rules for disciplinary appeals in the school district. (Note: Please refer to Article VIII, Section 7 regarding the permanent consequences for members when dismissed.)
