1 National Junior Honor Society Informational Meeting

2 When are students eligible?
All interested 8th grade students will be considered for membership each fall. All interested 7th grade students will be considered for membership in January once they have completed one semester at Discovery Middle School.

4 Obligations of Members:
Meetings Service hours Grades Dues

5 Chapter Meetings: 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month unless otherwise notified Promptly at 7:15 a.m. in the library Students are only allowed to miss one meeting each semester. For each additional absence, one extra hour of service must be completed.

6 Service Hours: Students must complete a minimum of two individual service hours each semester. These individual service projects should be at least one hour in duration and over at least two different days. Students must participate in all group service projects. Advisor approval is recommended prior to completing individual service projects.

7 Grades: Members are required to maintain a 90 average or higher.
Grades will be checked at the end of each 9 weeks. If a student fails to meet this requirement, he or she will be placed on probation for the next grading period. If the average is not improved to meet the 90 requirement after one grading period of probation, then the student will no longer be allowed to participate in NJHS.

8 Dues: New members: $20.00 Returning members: $10.00
These dues will help cover the costs of membership pins and the induction ceremony in the spring as well as national dues.

9 Process of Acceptance:
Interested students must have their name on interest sheet by December 9th. Overall numeric GPA will be verified. Student Application forms will be passed out and must be completed and turned in by due date. Teacher evaluations Disciplinary records are reviewed. Faculty Council review

10 Schedule of Events: Student Application forms will be passed out Friday, January 13th. If a student does not receive an application form, then he or she will receive a letter stating that the 90 grade requirement was not met. Student Application forms are due by the end of the day on Friday, January 20th. Acceptance letters will be passed out no later than Wednesday January 25th, after disciplinary records and applications have been reviewed and the faculty council has met to discuss the candidates. Students who receive acceptance letters will be required to attend their first meeting on Thursday, February 2nd, at 7:15 a.m. in the library.

11 Induction Ceremony: All new members will officially be inducted at a formal ceremony held in February 7th at 6:00pm, in the cafeteria.
