2.  National Junior Honor Society is a nationally recognized organization.  Santan Junior High pays a yearly fee to be a part of the national club.  We must follow the bylaws of the national organization and have adopted our own bylaws.  Members are first invited to apply based off their scholarship (good grades)  Applications are reviewed and students are scored on pillars of-character, leadership, service and citizenship  It is an Honor Society, meaning that you are a part of an organization of people who set themselves at a higher standard than the regular population.  Membership and fulfilling the requirements sets you at the top of your class.

3.  You enjoy helping others.  You like volunteering.  You are a leader.  You want to join NHS in high school and want to have some volunteer experience  You want to have NJHS on college applications

4.  Too busy.  Don’t like helping others.  Not a go-getter.  Don’t want to volunteer.  Parents are making you.  Teachers won’t have good recommendations for you.

6.  Separate the packet…the top sheet is the informational letter you will want to keep.  It has the due dates & how to find out if you made it. Keep this. Do not turn in with your application.  The next two pages are your application to fill out. You must handwrite your application. Do not type it. Typed applications will lose points. Only write your name on the first sheet/front side.  The final two pages should be separated and removed to give to two of your current core teachers.

7.  Thorough responses  Don’t leave ANY sections blank  Think outside the box, get creative  The more information you can provide the better  What does the term “paragraph” mean?

8.  Take a look at the back of the informational letter (page 1 of the packet)  You will be notified on Friday, January 29 th if you were accepted into the NJHS by picking up your acceptance letter from Mrs. Olson’s classroom.  Letters will be handed out in room 50 after the final bell at 3:58 PM.  Letters will not be handed out early.  The pick-up process for your acceptance will take less than a minute, so do not worry about being able to catch your bus on time as long as you move quickly to Mrs. Olson’s room and the bus area.

9.  If you think of anything that you forget to ask today, please email Mrs. Olson at olson.alysa@cusd80.com olson.alysa@cusd80.com  Since I’m not scoring the applications, I can offer tips/advice on any areas that you might want assistance in completing the packet.  Remember that this is a club promoting LEADERSHIP, so it’s best that YOU, the student, contact Mrs. Olson and communicate any of your questions.
