The homeland of the Inuit of Quebec 11,627 inhabitants Nunavik means "place to live" The people call themselves Nunavimmiut

In March of 2008, an agreement creating a form of self-government in the northern third of Quebec came into being. This area was called the Regional Government of Nunavik, and it covers about square kilometers north of the 55 th parallel. It is home to around people, most of whom are Inuit. The mother tongue of these people is Inuktitut, but many speak English as a second language, and some speak French as well.

Nunavik is home to nearly people, mostly Inuit. These people call themselves the Nunavimmiut. The language spoken in their day to day lives is Inuktitut, however many speak English or French as well. These people occupy 14 communities along the coasts of Hudson Bay, Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay, only 4 of these communities have a population over 1000.

The Nunavimmiut live in harmony with nature. The climate of Nunavik is very cold and dry, so the Inuit were forced to adapt to the weather. Their main industries are fishing, hunting, and tourism. In Nunavik you can hunt tundra caribou. They are the largest caribou herds in the world. The fishing industry includes Atlantic salmon, Arctic char, brook trout, and lake trout. The Atlantic salmon is known to be the hardest fighting fish in the nation, though the Arctic char is a close second. Almost only a Northern fish, Arctic char is the rarest kind of delicacy.

I think that the Nunavimmiut are a very resourceful people. Based on their history, I believe that they can easily adapt to the changing climate, and Nunavik will thrive. Their current industries may suffer if their tundra caribou migrate north, but as they have a history of adjusting to their surroundings, I think they would continue to do so in such a situation. I do not see the demolition of Nunavik in the near future, unless the Nunavimmiut decide to move north as their way to continue to endure.
