SS20U4L3 Courtney Penner

How and why Nunavik was created Created as a self government in the northern third of Quebec. Used to create a stable environment for investment and development that will mean new jobs and business opportunities. 30 year old process to get this self government.

The People The people live in harmony with nature. It is a beautiful sight to see. Hunting, fishing and gathering activities are central to life in Nunavik. 10,000 Inuit who live in 14 different villages. Most speak Inuktituk although some Inuit speak English and French as second languages. Partake in many outdoor activities such as dog sledding, snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling. Dress warm like the Inuit as they know how to live gracefully in the cold.

The Main Industries and Jobs Mining companies Operating and maintaining heavy equipment Carpentry Administration. Tourism There are many growing industries and jobs are flourishing in Nunavik. The growing integration of the northern and southern Canada has created many new challenges and opportunities for the Inuit.

Friendly, beautiful and wild The Inuit remain very dependent on nature for their survival. A place where the sky endlessly meets the horizon and where all your outdoor adventure dreams can come true. Nature in Nunavik is truly wild and untouched. Marine mammals are plentiful and will definitely take your breath away. Visit Nunavik for an experience of a lifetime.

How Nunavik will do? I believe Nunavik will flourish. It is a place based on cultures. When living in Nunavik you are an Inuit and because of the strong cultural beliefs the Inuit people have I believe Nunavik will become its own place and as it already has its’ own self government I believe it will become much like Quebec. I think it is a strong enough nation to overcome any challenges and become a place of a strong Inuit culture where once again people learn to live off the land and with nature.
