September 1-5 Phone: ext Web Page: r achellandis1.weebly.com/index.htm l Notes from Miss Landis: Calendar Notes: Miss Landis’ Kindergarten Newsletter 4 Language Arts Focus: K.RF.2.4, K.RF.3.1, K.RV.2.2 Math Focus: K.NS.1, K.NS.2, K.NS.3, K.NS.4, K.NS.5, K.NS.6 “A told B and B told C I’ll meet you at the top of the coconut tree! Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!” Be ready to hear those words a lot this week because we will be doing a variety of activities related to a fun alphabet book called Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Please continue to review the letters of the alphabet with your child. Ask them what letters they see in books, signs, labels, etc. It is important that the children be able to identify both the capital and lower case letters. The more you practice, the better they will get. The name helper papers that come home are also a wonderful way to practice the letters. The children will bring home the book, Cat and Dog Go To Town this week. It will review our “popcorn words” that we have learned so far. We have been talking about how letters are put together to make words, and words are put together to make sentences. Attached to this newsletter is an activity to do with your child to work on this skill. Please have them complete it and return it to get in the Treasure Basket. This week we will work on the “tongue scrapers,” Kk and Gg. They are called the tongue scrapers because the way the tongue “scrapes” the roof of the mouth to make the sound. Please continue to practice identifying these sounds at home as well by reviewing the letter paper. This week we will begin identifying, counting, and ordering numbers from 0 to 3. This may seem rather simple, but we are going to be not only working on the numbers, but identifying the numbers in a variety of forms. One way that we will do this is through dot patterns (think of dice). Your child should be able to quickly identify these dot patterns without counting: The children will also learn how to “build” each number using counters. As we introduce a number, we will also teach the children a poem to help them write the number correctly. I will be sending home the number poems for the numbers 0-9. We count each day during calendar. Make sure your child is counting at home! Thanks so much for all your help with the weekly homework. Your involvement with these activities really does make such a difference. Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers for the months of August and September! We really appreciate your help! If you would still like to volunteer, just let me know when. We usually need two people each day. Congratulations to Addison R. for being the student of the week! Monday 6:30, September 15: PTO Meeting Review: the, little, can, I, am, will Special Class: Monday: No School Tuesday: Gym Wednesday: C.A.R.S Thursday: Art Friday: Library * Make sure your child has gym shoes on gym days and their library books on library days.
