WHY  Explore your chosen field  Gain experience in your chosen field  Discover your chosen field  Build your résumé  Make business contacts for future jobs  Build confidence leadership and  It’s better to do something than do nothing.

HOW  Dream Dream  Look Look  Get Creative. Pitching an idea

THE PITCH Create a one-page outline of your internship idea  Things to include:  Which department or with whom you would prefer to work  The skills you would like to gain  The time frame and time commitment of the internship  What you bring to the party, and  Your openness & flexibility for alternate plans of work.

HOW  Make a list of your top 5-10 companies or organizations you would like to work with and DO YOUR HOMEWORK! DO YOUR HOMEWORK!  Get to know someone at the organization through phone calls or an informational interview.

FOLLOW-UP Most important and hardest to do  s  Calls  Cards or letters (snail mail)  Drop by, and  Attend things they attend.
