Presentation transcript:

Q4: Who would be the audience for your media product? The niche audience for our media product would be late teens and above stopping before elderly people as they may be distressed by the conventions of our film. Typically the type of person who would enjoy our film would be interested in the following things: adrenaline, problem solving, shutter island, red dragon, crime/psychological mysteries, jackal& hyde. People who have these sorts of interests are our potential audience because it’s for people who are willing to think and suss out the situations. They need to be a minor adrenaline-junkie as it has a lot of build up and tension for whether you’ve worked the narrative out correctly. Having said that the complex narrative is a barrier for more viewers as a large amount of people enjoy watching a film without having to pay too much attention and still have an idea of the narrative, whereas with our film you have to be focused enough to recognise the link between Dolarhyde’s separate personalities. Therefore excluding a handful of people.

Audiences for our film If I were to be stereotypical I’d say our film leans more to the side of male interests as its adrenaline-pumping and not too easy watching. However, the fact we have a female main character who participates in the action may make the film that bit more appealing for women. Overall I reckon the majority of the audience would be male, but not completely over-ruling women as we purposely tried to make it appealing to both sexes which tends to be unusual in thrillers. The audience would range from 18-55, as it’s a face paced film and complex to understand. It cuts out younger teenagers as they wouldn’t necessarily be interested in watching a film which requires such attention and the elderly sector wouldn’t appreciate the unnecessary tension and anxiety the film would cause them to encounter. This does mean it would have an effect on box office takings, however the fact the film will create such good suspense will mean the age-range of our audience would be likely to return to see the film for a second time. This counter-acting the loss of either sides of the spectrum in the age range.

Thriller audiences/ Ratings Our film’s similar to Red Dragon and Jekyll& Hyde, these films attracted such a large fan base as they were prequels and already well-known stories. However they certainly have a niche audience, much like our film. The interests would cross-over, being adrenaline and thought-required attention. As well as other crime/psychological thrillers. Personally due to the gory/crime aspect as well as the difficult psychological aspect of the narrative, based on ratings for other similar films (such as Red Dragon& Jekyll&Hyde) also. I’d make it a 15 as the content isn’t graphic enough to be an 18.

Typical Audience Member “This is James Deacon, he’s 27 years old and lives in a shared house in Manchester. He dresses in a fairly minimalistic way and loves travelling, the thing he enjoys most about travelling is all the adrenaline filled experiences he gets to do. He describes himself as a bit of an adrenaline junkie, who likes to do out of the ordinary hobbies, including: rock climbing & jumping, fire-throwing, free-running. However he also enjoys time to himself to read and let his intellect develop just as much as his body. He enjoys films such as Layer Cake, Shutter Island, Seven, Red Dragon, Jekyll & Hyde is a favourite. He will only watch a film more than once if it has actually increased his adrenaline rate in any way. Meaning he isn’t prone to listening to calm, relaxing music either. He enjoys drum & bass, jungle and techno as it gets him in the mood for giving his all in any one of his chosen hobbies which is the only time he listens to music apart from festivals in the summer. He doesn’t think that going to see one artist in a night is enough to satisfy him. Being a curious individual who typically likes these sorts of films, James would be a candidate of which our film would appeal to, as long as he felt a slight rush of adrenaline he’d be sure to come back, improving box office takings.”
