Let You Go – Suddenly Us

Music Videos: Why? Music videos are made for many different reasons and many of them are for similar reasons, both of these reasons involving the band and the bands music itself. To ensure that the music video itself is successful in everyway possible, many of the codes and conventions of a music video are met and used correctly. However, sometimes they are taken and challenged. These codes and conventions would be for example; Show off the band members and their music Make the song memorable to its viewers Show the members of the bands personalities and what the band is about Represent the band in a positive way Make the bands genre perfectly clear

Music Video: Genre The codes and conventions of a music video that are usually followed usually depend on the genre of the music from the band. For example, a rap video would have a storyline of a bad boy and/or bad girl and at least have one or more scenes at a night club. For my music video, I chose to do a song for a band that create music from the pop genre. The codes and conventions for this genre are; Pop music videos are generally performance based More or less about the artist and the artist will be the spotlight of the video through performance or narrative. -Full of lots of bright colours, clothing, props and a lively way of editing the video -The pop genre itself is very upbeat, fun and light hearted to appeal to a younger audience -Artists are usually dressed in the current trends and fashion in stylish mainstream outfits. -The videos will show close ups and mid shots of the artist to show innocence -In a location which shows positiveness and good mood, for example friends houses, beaches, clouds etc. -Usually have some sort of narrative like parties and teenage crushes e.g. lady gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift.

Music Video: Mise-En-Scene When it comes to the Mise en scene of my music video, I have stuck to many of the codes and conventions of this music genre. Firstly the setting of a teenage love story in a park or in an outside location. The location that has been chosen automatically portrays the type of genre the band is in and what type of music they are trying to sell the audience. This location also portrays the age of the band and what type of things that they like to do as hobbies or in their spare time.

Music Video : Typical Props There are also very typical and conventional props in my music video. For example; the boy in my music video is wearing a sports branded hoodie and shorts. This portrays the big boy image that he can impress anyone at the same time as falling in love with someone.

Music Video : Typical themes In my music video, I also followed the conventions of using bright colours. For example; the boy is wearing bright colours on his hoodie and the bright blue background to break up the colour contrast. However, I challenged the theme of the bands image as they are hardworking musicians but in the music video I have got the characters messing around and laughing a lot with each other.
