MISSISSIPPI SCHOLARS Requirements to be a Mississippi Scholar 40 hours of community service 18 ACT composite score 2.5 cumulative high school gpa 95% school attendance during 4 years of high school No out-of-school suspensions Application must be filled out and turned in by the deadline

DUAL ENROLLMENT OBHS is very excited to be a partner with Northwest Mississippi Community College, and to offer our students the opportunity to earn college credit in high school! And the courses are discounted from the regular college costs too! English Comp I English Comp II College Algebra

Dual Enrollment Requirements English Comp I  17 or higher on the English portion of the ACT  Cost is $220  Meets after school 1 day per week  Successful completion earns 3 hours of college credit  Successful completion of English Comp I is required to take English Comp II  The cost of English Comp II is also $220, and it meets at the same time as Comp I.

Dual Enrollment Requirements College Algebra  19 or higher on the Math portion of the ACT  Cost is $110 (due at the beginning of the semester)  Meets during the school day at OBHS  Can pair with College Trigonometry for 3 additional hours of college credit (no high school credit) AND an additional $110, due at the beginning of the semester.  If you don’t pair with College Trig, no high school credit will be awarded.  Successful completion earns 3 hours college credit AND 1 weighted high school credit IF you pair with College Trig

ACT/SAT If you haven’t already, please register to take the ACT or the SAT. Both tests are accepted by colleges, and they are required to attend. Both tests are offered here at OBHS. Register and pay online.

Where Do I Start Planning for College? Do some research online first Request information on all schools your child is interested in attending. (worksheet available) Plan a campus visit Meet with the admissions representative who visits our campus Attend college fairs

College Visits Who to see? Make appointment with Admissions office Make appointment with financial aid office Make appointment with the department of study Visit a dorm Tour the campus Extracurricular activities Honors college

College Applications Keep a copy of applications Complete as requested (ink, signed, neat) Submit test scores from testing agency Write thank you notes to staff who helped you Send transcripts: Before graduation: get form from the guidance office. After graduation: order through Parchment on the county office website.

Recommendations Create a resume and give it to anyone you would need a recommendation from (forms are available in Guidance) Allow a minimum of 2 weeks notice to counselors and teachers. Recommendations are very important to the application process!

NCAA Apply online and pay the current fee – Request transcript to be sent to NCAA Request test scores to be sent to NCAA – code 9999 when registering for the ACT and SAT Create an account ASAP if you haven’t already (remember your username and password) Make sure you are cleared before campus visits See your coach or Mr. Jones if you have any questions
