The Sports Capital Programme is the main channel of Government support for developing sports facilities and purchasing sports equipment for sports clubs and organisations across Ireland.

Aims Support counties to develop high quality, safe, well designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations. Provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation. Prioritise the needs of disadvantaged areas in the provision of sports facilities. Encourage the multi-purpose use of facilities by clubs, community organisations and NGB’s of sport.

Deadlines for applications Online applications and those made in Irish (+ a hard copy of the signed application and all supporting documentation) – 5pm Friday 1 st June. Paper based applications (+ all supporting documentation) – 5pm Friday 11 th May. LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Application forms available from

3.Contact details Primary and post primary schools may only apply for funding jointly with local sports clubs or community groups and must adhere to criteria set out in Section 2 of the guidelines.

5. Details of proposed projects and costs See examples of what the fund covers – page 8 of guidelines. NB – describe in detail how your proposed project will increase participation numbers in physical activity and sport. NB – specifically if targeting disadvantaged areas / female participation. NB – how will your project be accessible? NB – how will your project improve performance? Targets to be specific, measureable and achievable.

9. Use of your facilities 9.3 – highlight disadvantaged communities, female participation, people with disabilities etc. Support letter from NGB on need for facility may be beneficial.

10. Managing the Facility Business plan document outlining management of facility, managing costs, running programmes/initiatives to increase participation. Include management policies on staff, opening hours, social inclusion policies etc.

11. Encouraging disadvantaged groups and people to use your facilties. How will this happen? What initiatives will you put in place to ensure this? Detail target numbers. Detail targeting unemployed persons (lower cost access) and how this will be done. Detail for targeting other disadvantaged groups to include groups with low physical activity participation rates. (Female, older adults, people with disabilities.)
