Level 3 Language Arts with Ms. Sheri Lesson 29 Adding ED Verbs Tense

Adding ED As we learned in lesson 27, suffixes added to a word change the meaning of the word. When ed is added to the end of a verb it changes it to past tense. Verbs in past tense tell about things that have already happened.

Adding ED Add ed to a regular verb to change it to past tense. If the word ends in e, just add d. It snowed 16 inches last night. Mom smiled at our snow angels. The snow cream tasted good.

Adding ED If the verb end in y, change the y to an i and add ed. They hurried to do do the wash. The laundry dried outside. Danny carried all the baskets.

Past Tense Let's practice with a worksheet. Simple Past Tense worksheet

This is the end of the phonics lesson for today. You will practice what you learned by doing the Change Y to I worksheet.

Verb Tenses When something already happened, we use past tense. We use present tense when things are happening right now. Future tense is used when something hasn't happened yet.

Verb Tenses Here are some examples of verbs in past, present and future tense. Yesterday I... Today I... Tomorrow I... loved love will love created create will create signed sign will sign

Verb Tenses Yesterday I... Today I... Tomorrow I... rocked rock will rock climbed climb will climb cried cry will cry prayed pray will pray started start will start

Verb Tenses Yesterday I... Today I... Tomorrow I... rocked rock will rock climbed climb will climb cried cry will cry prayed pray will pray started start will start

Irregular Verb Tense Some verbs do not follow the regular verb pattern. To form the past tense you do not add ed. You must change the whole word. I ate snack yesterday. I eat snack today. I said it yesterday. I say it today.
