Every verb has four principal parts: base form (present tense)
present participle (is/are + -ing verb) past (past tense) past participle (has/have/had + past participle) Base Form walk sing Present Participle is/are walking is/are singing Past walked sang Past Participle has/have/had walked has/have/had sung

Two Kinds of Verbs: Regular and Irregular Regular Verbs: form past tense and past participle by adding –d or –ed to the base form; Spelling changes are needed in some verbs. Base Form use carry Present Participle is/are using is/are carrying Past used carried Past Participle has/have/had used has/have/had carried

Irregular Verb: forms its past and past participle in some way other than adding –d or –ed.
Base Form eat do Present Participle is/are eating is/are doing Past ate did Past Participle has/have/had eaten has/have/had done
