Advanced Placement or AP  Sponsored by the College Board  Offer students an opportunity to take rigorous, college level curriculum while still in High School.  Courses labeled AP have syllabi that have been and were required to be approved by the College Board.

Dual Enrollment  Offered by UNO in conjunction with a current course taught at Burke High School by Burke teachers  Students have the opportunity, but are not required to participate in the Dual Enrollment component of a selected course.  There is a $250 fee for dual enrollment, which covers UNO fees as well as the cost of the AP exam administered in the spring. Scholarships are available to help with the cost of the fees for students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch.

 Dual Enrollment is based on the performance throughout the semester/school year  Advanced Placement is based entirely on the test in May

Dual Enroll Advantages: Grade earned is a college credit. Do not have to pass the exam to earn college credit. Cheaper than college tuition. Transfers to 92% of colleges. Can earn additional retroactive credits. Advanced Placement Exam Advantages: Transfers universally to colleges. Can opt out of sending scores to colleges. Gain experience taking college exams. Cheaper than college tuition.

Dual Enrollment Cautions: Doesn’t always transfer. Grade received in the course appears on college transcript. AP Exam Cautions: Must do well on exam to receive college credit. Colleges have different policies specific to AP exam courses. Not guaranteed college credit.

OPTION 1:Enroll in Course ONLY  No fees  Engage in rigorous, college level curriculum while still in high school and become prepared for a similar course that may be required in post secondary education.

OPTION 2: Enroll in AP Course, Participate in AP Exam (Do NOT Dual Enroll)  $87 exam fee  Student takes a 3+ hour exam in early May and earns a College Board score of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 (5 being the top score)  Student may receive college credit depending on the score, the AP course and the university the student plans to attend

OPTION 3: Enroll in Course AND Participate in Dual Enrollment  $250 fee (includes UNO fee + $87 AP Exam)  Student’s grade earned appears on an OPS transcript AND a UNO transcript  Take the corresponding AP Exam* *Not all Dual Enrolled Course are AP
