2. What is Pre-AP? Think of Pre-AP courses as honors courses designed to prepare students for AP courses. Pre-AP English Courses: English I & English II Pre-AP Math Courses: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II & Pre-Calculus Pre-AP Science Courses: Chemistry Pre-AP Social Studies Courses: Civics/Government

3. What is AP? AP stands for Advanced Placement AP courses are college-level courses taught in high schools by high school teachers AP teachers use college-level materials and course descriptions developed by a committee of college faculty and AP teachers. AP Course Descriptions reflect courses taught in colleges and universities throughout the country. Students can earn college credit by taking and passing AP exams.

4. AP Courses AP English Courses : Language & Composition and Literature & Composition AP Math Courses: Calculus AB, Calculus BC and Statistics AP Science Courses: Biology, Chemistry and Physics AP Social Studies Courses: European History, Human Geography, U.S. History

5. Why take AP Courses? Students who take AP courses in High School can earn more KEES money!!! ♦ AP course grades are weighted, so students’ GPAs can be higher earning them more KEES money. ♦ AP students ACT scores are typically higher, earning them the ACT bonus. ♦ Students who are eligible for Free & Reduced Lunch earn more KEES money based on their AP exam scores.

6. Why take AP Courses? AP students are more likely to maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher in college so they can keep their KEES award.

7. Why take AP Courses? Students who take AP courses in High School earn a competitive advantage over similar students who avoided AP courses when it comes to college admissions and scholarships. Colleges are starting to expect students to take AP courses.

8. Why take AP Courses? AP students are more likely to graduate from a four-year college than similar non-AP students. College students who have not taken an AP class have a 33% chance of completing a Bachelor’s Degree. College students who have completed one AP course have a 59% chance of completing a Bachelor’s Degree. College students who have completed two or more AP courses have a 76% chance of completing a Bachelor’s Degree.

9. What are the teacher expectations for AP classes? Following tonight’s presentation, the AP teachers will be at the tables outside the auditorium to answer any questions you may have or to provide you with a syllabus so you can look over it.
