4 What are the benefits of taking AP classes?
Stand out in college admissions You’ve challenged yourself in high school. Earn College Credits Skip Introductory College Classes Advanced Placement Build College Skills Helps prepare for what’s coming in college

5 How are college credits earned by taking AP exams?
Your AP exam score shows how well you did on the AP exam. It's a measure of your achievement in your AP course. Your score is used by colleges and universities to determine how much credit you will be granted for what you have learned and allow you to skip the equivalent course once you get to college (this is known as advanced placement).

6 How are college credits earned by taking AP exams?
AP exam scores are a weighted combination of the scores from the multiple-choice section and the free-response section. The final score is reported on a 5-point scale as follows: 5 = extremely well qualified 4 = well qualified 3 = qualified (you have proven yourself capable of doing the work of an introductory-level course) 2 = possibly qualified 1 = no recommendation

7 How are college credits earned by taking AP exams?
A bill signed into law by Gov. Abbott in June, 2015 required the state’s colleges and universities to give credit for scores of three or higher on many AP tests. The new law means that high school students could get credit for thousands of hours not allowed before.  The aim of the law is to save money for students and universities. Based on 124,000 scores of three in 2014, State Rep. John Zerwas, the bill’s author, predicted that accepting all scores of three would save Texas students up to $160 million in tuition.

8 How do I find out the credit colleges will give me for my scores?
In order to be considered for credit or placement, you must send your official AP score report to the college you're planning to attend. To see college policies for AP scores, visit:
