The Perfect Storm

The League of Nations was…. A rule isn’t worth anything unless you enforce it.

· 1938 – Germany annexed Austria. Hitler Takes Over Europe · 1936 – German troops move into the Rhineland, bordering France and Belgium. Both of these actions ___________ the Versailles Treaty.

· 1938 – Germany claimed the Sudetenland, a part of Czechoslovakia.

· Sept – At the Munich Conference, Hitler invited the leaders of Britain and France to Germany and assured them that he wanted no more territory. “Peace in our time” I pinky swear that I will not invade anymore countries.

Britain and France gave into Germany hoping that it would avoid warfare. This was known as appeasement. (Giving the bully our lunch money, so they will not beat us up.)
