 The consequence of a soul faces in its next life for its actions in this life.

 The 4 noble truths EXPLAIN why people suffer.  The 8fold Path DESCRIBES behaviors that will end suffering.

 Ones position in society results from past ACTS – Karma. Lower classes hoped to improve their position in a future life.  Live a good life and you will be rewarded in your next life.
