New England Colonies Massachusetts: Founded in 1630 by William Bradford and John Winthrop to escape religious persecution in England. Connecticut: Founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker for farming, trade, and political freedom. Rhode lsland: Founded in 1636 by Roger Williams to establish colony for people of all religions. New Hampshire: Founded in 1679 by John Wheelwright for trade and fishing. Resources for these colonies: rich forests, harbors, boatyards, fishing, shipbuilding, lumbering, and furs for trading

Middle Colonies(The Breadbasket Colonies) New York: Founded in 1664 by The Duke of York as a colony over by captured dutch territory. New Jersey: Founded in 1664 by Lord Berkeley and George Carteret as a colony over by captured dutch territory. Pennsylvania: Founded in 1682 by William Penn to establish quaker colony in North America. Delaware: Founded in 1704 by William Penn for trade and farming. Resources for these colonies: natural harbors, grain, and farm animals

Southern Colonies Virginia: Founded in 1607 by John Smith to establish an English colony in North America in search of gold. Maryland: Founded in 1634 by Lord Baltimore to establish refuge to Catholics in North America. North Carolina: Founded in 1729 by William Berkeley for farming. South Carolina: Founded in 1729 by Anthony Ashley- Cooper for farming. Georgia: Founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe as a refuge for debtors, colony between Carolinas and Florida.
