How can our actions make life better in Kibera? Starter Activity: Imagine that you are David and three months ago you picked up a leaflet from the Kicoshep Youth Centre and you now go there often. Read the leaflet from Kicoshep (funded by Unicef) List the ways the centre has helped you.

Improving Life in Kibera Learning Objectives: To analyse and evaluate evidence to draw and justify conclusions. To understand how places are changing and the implications of this change for people.

So... what is happening in Kibera? Your Task: In pairs you are going to complete a “hot seating” activity. One of you is a journalist researching the impact that the Kikoshep Youth Centre has had on the people living in Kibera –you will get questions to help you from your teacher. The other is to role play David and his responses to the questions based on your knowledge of the youth centre and its impact.

The Finished Article Your Task: You are to rewrite your interview findings as a newspaper article. Here are some questions to help you with your written report. What are the main ways that Kicoshep youth centre is helping young people living in Kibera? How does the Kicoshep youth centre compare with a youth centre in your local area? Is running Kicoshep a good way to spend Unicef money? What other projects might help people living in Kibera?

Learning Review How successful have we been in meeting our learning objectives? To analyse and evaluate evidence to draw and justify conclusions. To understand how places are changing and the implications of this change for people.
