Give students a photograph and they have to come up with as many questions about that photo as possible.

5 Acrostic Prepare for Learning Create a key word acrostic for………
An acrostic can settle a class. Can challenge students to Really think about their vocabulary, Or consider how they link points. Some use prior knowledge The others could be more thoughts. It can be a whole paragraph, Could also be individual words. Create a key word acrostic for……… Challenge yourself and try and make each letter into a sentence

Prepare for Learning Can you answer this question? See if students can answer a key learning question at the start of the lesson. Then see if they can answer it at the end.

7 Present new information
Give students new knowledge, content or skills by sharing the information with them.

8 Present new information
Read a story Read the students a story about the learning with key information in it. At the end the students write down what they can remember, then pair and share

Watch a video There are lots of fantastic video clips online! Students watch a key video and then note down any relevant information.

Card sort Give students key information on cut out cards. Students could then sort into categories- don’t be afraid to let the students pick the categories!

Mysteries and investigations Give students lots of clues to answer a key question. This could be scaffolded with a series of questions to help students solve the mystery.

Treasure hunt! Either put information around the room/school/ place or give it to individual students and get them to find it! The information could answer specific questions you set.

Students answer an exam question which uses their new knowledge or skill. Don’t forget to peer assess to reduce your marking!

Students create a model which shows/ proves/ solves/ recreates…. This could be drawn, created, written down, or even acted out!

Apply the learning Write a newspaper article Students write a newspaper article relating to the learning. Try giving word limits to challenge the students.

For a controversial topic have a class debate where different students have different roles or have a “silent debate” where the thoughts are written down.

19 Review the learning Check students understand the learning in the lesson, allowing you to see what the next steps might be in future lessons.

Review the learning I have met the LO because… Get students to justify how they have met the learning objective. Give students key words that they have to include and sentence starters to help.

Review the learning How would you teach someone… Get the students to be the teacher. They could imagine they are teaching year 5’s or 5 year olds, or even their parents! They have to create a way to teach the learning.

23 Student Question and Answer
Review the learning Student Question and Answer Each student comes up with 5 questions from the lesson. They then swap with someone and answer their 5 questions.

24 Where are you on the journey
Review the learning Where are you on the journey Ask students where they feel they are on the tree in relation to the lesson. Get them to justify their decision if you can.
