Predicates & Verbs Developed by Amy Thornton 4 th Grade Dyer School

The COMPLETE PREDICATE includes all the words that tell what the subject is or does.

The SIMPLE PREDICATE is the main word or words in the complete predicate. The simple predicate is always a VERB.

The VERB tells what the subject is or does. It often shows the action in a sentence.

Many people work at the dairy.

Dairy farmers raise cows.

Cows produce milk.

Butter and cheese come from milk.

Many markets sell cheddar cheese.

Hikers climb mountains.

They sit by waterfalls.

Rangers share nature stories.

Guides explain different areas.
