1 33 Simple and compound sentences
An independent clause presents a complete thought and can stand alone as a sentence. Simple Sentences are sentences with one independent clause. Simple sentences can have one or more subjects and one or more predicates (anything after and including the verb). EX. The rooster croweded in unison as the sky lightened. EX. Marcel and Naomi set the table and served dinner. Compound sentences are sentences with tow or more simple sentences, or independent clauses. A compound sentence can be two sentences joined with a comma and a coordinate conjunction. The most common coordinating conjunctions are and, but, or, yet, and so. For and nor can also be used. EX. The marching band needs to raise money, so band members will sell raffle tickets. A compound sentence can also be two simple sentences joined by a semicolon. EX. The marching band needs to raise money; band members will sell raffle tickets.
