2 What do you need to make a complete sentence? A subject and a predicate. End of story. Without these, you DO NOT have a complete sentence!

3 Subject The subject of a sentence is the person, place, thing, or idea (NOUN) that is doing or being something The SUBJECT is what or who the sentence is about

4 Predicate The predicate is the part of a sentence that “modifies” the subject in some way In other words, the predicate is the part of a sentence that contains a VERB explaining what a SUBJECT does A predicate contains a VERB and a DIRECT OBJECT

5 Verb The action being done by the SUBJECT

6 Direct Object A NOUN or PRONOUN that receives the action of the verb

7 Are these complete sentences? When he went to the store and got a candy bar. A soft sweater. When she got sick. When he fought the boys in the street. Warm, bright. When the girl broke her leg.
