1 Simple and Complete Subjects and Predicates

2 Complete Subject and Simple Subject
The words that tell whom or what the sentence is about are the complete subject. The most important word in the complete subject is the simple subject. The simple subject is usually a noun or pronoun. It can be more than one word. Example: Kansas City Many students love music class. Many students is the complete subject. Students is the simple subject.

3 Complete Predicate and Simple Predicate
The words that tell what the subject is or does are the complete predicate. The most important word in the complete predicate is the simple predicate. The simple predicate is a verb. It can be more than one word. Example: is talking Some students study for many hours nightly. Study for many hours nightly is the complete predicate. Study is the simple predicate.

4 Fragment A fragment is a group of words that lacks a subject or a predicate. Worked till noon. This fragment lacks a subject. The dancers at the play. This fragment lacks a predicate.

5 Run-on A run-on is two or more complete sentences run together.
Mr. Lilley likes the football he likes wrestling.
