Required Testing Classes with an End of Course (EOC): 9 th Lit / American Lit; Algebra I / Geometry; Physical Science / Biology; US History / Economics All EOC testing will count 20% of final grade. All students are required to take EOC tests and must pass EOC courses to fulfill graduation requirements.

Description of Honors Honors is a local designation given to courses that offer a more rigorous and in-depth curriculum designed to challenge advanced students in preparation for secondary opportunities. The course expectations are higher and will include higher level thinking and critical problem solving. Standardized tests, teacher recommendations, and historical grades are used as guiding references when considering placement of students in these challenging courses: Honors ELA 9 th Grade Lit/Comp Honors Coordinate Algebra Honors Biology

Description of Accelerated The only “Accelerated” courses offered in high school are in the area of mathematics and are designed to cover more curriculum at an advanced pace within a school year to ensure that students have the opportunity to take an AP course as their 4 th year option. Accelerated Coordinated Algebra (9 th grade) – covers the full year of Coordinate Algebra standards and first semester of Analytical Geometry standards. Accelerated Analytical Geometry (10 th grade) – covers 2 nd semester of Analytical Geometry standards and the full year of Advanced Algebra standards. Accelerated Pre-Calculus (11 th grade) – covers the full year of Pre- calculus as designed by the state standards. AP Calculus and/or AP Statistics are offered as a 4 th year math course.

Description of Advanced Placement (AP) The Advanced Placement (AP) is a program in the managed by the College Board College that offers college-level curriculum and examinations to high school students. Colleges and Universities often grant placement and college credit to students who obtain high scores above a certain number on the examinations. For a high school course to have the AP designation, the course must be audited by the College Board to ensure that it satisfies the AP curriculum. Mary Persons currently offers the following AP courses: AP World History AP Government AP U. S. History AP Chemistry AP Environmental Science AP Art AP Language AP Literature AP Economics AP Calculus AP Statistics

HOPE Rigor Courses To be eligible for the HOPE scholarship, in addition to Grade Point Average and other requirements: ** Students graduating after May 1, 2015 (Current Seniors) must have TWO full academic rigor courses ** Students graduating after May 1, 2016 (Current Juniors) must have THREE full academic rigor courses ** Students graduating after May 1, 2017 (Current Sophomores) and beyond must have FOUR full academic rigor courses
