Mrs. Hegedus’ Kindergarten Class! Welcome!

Welcome to Kindergarten!  My goal this year is to give your child the best education and to have a lot of fun while we are learning!  It is so important that we work together to help your child succeed! Don’t forget that you were your child’s first teacher!

All About Me  My background  My name is Susanne Hegedus. I graduated from Kutztown Univ. in  I received my Master’s degree in 2002 in Education.  My experience  I was a sub. teacher for 5 years and had long term positions in 6 th, 4 th, and kindergarten before I was hired here in  I have been with Northern Lehigh for 18 years. This is my 17 year teaching kindergarten and I LOVE it!!!

My Family  My husband  George  My children  George - who is almost 17and is in 11 th grade  Michael - who is almost 13 and is in 7 th grade

Kindergarten Skills Our first two weeks are Kindergarten Boot Camp!! We will learn to:  socialize with each other  become independent  work with a partner and small groups  follow rules and show respect for each other  be a good listener

Reading-Saxon Phonics and Scott Foresman  We will use Saxon for letter and sound recognition, blending and reading words and popcorn words.  One letter each week will be taught.  We will use the Scott Foresman series for comprehension and writing activities.  Please refer to the Kindergarten Expectations packet in your folder. 

Title One Reading  We are a school-wide Title One reading program. This means that Title One teachers can work with all children, not just kids who need extra help as in the past and use funds to help support all children in our school.  The sheet that you signed as you arrived is an acknowledgement of hearing this information for the state.

Math  Our district is now using the PA Common Core Math standards. We are using the Pearson enVision Math series.  Please refer to the Kindergarten Expectations packet in your folder.

Science and Social Studies  We will cover all of our Science and Social Studies units through themes during the year.  The Hegedus Herald will give you all the info.

SWPBS SWPBS Power Point

Specials  See the Specials Schedule sheet in your packet.  Please wear sneakers on gym day and send a large art shirt for painting and other messy projects.

Hegedus Herald Newsletter  My newsletter comes home EVERY OTHER Friday. It lasts for 2 weeks. Please read it with your child so they know what is coming up for the week.  The newsletter tells you what we are learning, when homework is coming home, when specials are, and upcoming events.  Please fill out the paper in your folder to let me know if you prefer to check out the newsletter on-line and help conserve paper or if you would still like a paper copy.

What to Bring to School  Regular sized backpack. No Wheels!  Pencil box filled with a pencil, glue stick and a box of 8 crayons.  Send the rest of the supplies in a bag labeled with your child’s name.  Large, pull over paint shirt  Daily snack - please refer to the snack paper in your folder  Set of extra clothes in a labeled bag in case of accidents.  Wear the fish name tag for the first week of school.

Miscellaneous  Please make sure your child knows whether they are packing or buying lunch and if they are supposed to eat breakfast at school (optional).  Help your child check their backpack nightly and remove all papers.  Birthday treats – If you want to send a treat, please send me an or note a few days ahead of time so that I can put it into my plans.

PTO  You will hear from our PTO President in the cafeteria  They really need help with events, so please give of your time if you have a chance.
