Job Application Tips

What does it Provide? A completed job application provides the employer with two kinds of information about you. 1.It provides answers to questions about your education and work experience. 2.It provides information about your ability to follow directions, work neatly, spell correctly, and provide accurate and complete data. This information is provided by "how" you fill out the application form.

What kind of Statement does a completed job application make? It is a statement about your: –Personal experience fill out a very positive statement about you as a person –Educational experience –Work experience fill out a very positive statement about you as a future employee

When filling out the form? Be sure to follow directions. Be neat. Provide only positive information. –For example, list any unpaid volunteer experience in the work experience section. Be thorough in your preparation and then careful while you are filling the application out. ** The job application represents who YOU are.

Job Application Tips Before you begin - first read the application carefully! Study the directions.

Job Application Tips Print in black ink if you are unable to complete using a computer.

Job Application Tips Do not use nicknames. Write “Robert” not “Bobby”

Job Application Tips Answer all questions. If a question does not apply to you, put NA for “Not Applicable.”

Job Application Tips Answer all questions honestly. Giving false information can catch up with you later.

Job Application Tips List the specific job you are applying for – do not write anything.

Job Application Tips Misspelled words give a poor impression of your ability.

Job Application Tips You may be asked to name the wages or salary expected. It’s better to discuss this in person. Write “Open.”

Job Application Tips You may be asked to give a reason for leaving a previous job. Do not put down anything that criticizes a past employer. ~ Examples of appropriate reasons for leaving a job are: “returned to school” “left for a better job” “job terminated”
