2 Applying for a Job 0 Applying means that you present yourself as a job candidate- possible employee- for the position 0 A successful job application leads to an invitation for a job interview. 0 Applying usually starts with sending in your resume and cover letter 0 Sometimes you can improve your chances of landing an interview by applying in person!

3 Applying in Person 0 At a small company: 0 Speak directly with the owner or manager 0 Example: applying for a position in a local restaurant 0 At a large company: 0 Go to the Human Resources (HR) department 0 Employees in the HR department often meet job applicants first to decided whether they meet the qualifications for the position

6 What to remember when filling out a job application 0 Read the form before you start filling it out 0 Follow all instructions 0 Be truthful and accurate 0 Write neatly 0 Enter N/A for not applicable if there is a question that does not apply to you 0 Check your grammar and spelling 0 If you make a mistake, ask for an new form and start again

7 Use a Personal Information Card 0 Personal Information Card: is an index card-or other piece of paper- on which you write or print information you might need to fill out a job application properly!

8 To create a personal information card, simple write the information you will need, including: 0 The names, addresses, and contact information of your current and previous employers, including dates & the amount you were paid 0 The names & addresses of schools where you earned a diploma or degree, including dates 0 The names, address, and contact information your references
