3 10 Steps to the Prefect Application
Print, don’t write. Use your best penmanship Use a pen, not a pencil. Use Black Neatness counts. Says you take pride in your work. Answer every question. If doesn’t apply put NA if want to discuss put see me. Don’t give an expected salary. Write “Open”

Be accurate. Make sure all names are spelled correctly and dates, phone numbers are correct. Make sure your reason for leaving a job is a good one. Make sure you have permission from references. Be Honest. No exaggerating. Don’t forget to sign and date the application.

5 Helpful Hints Read the application thoroughly before you begin.
Be sure you understand the instructions. Remember NEATNESS COUNTS!!!! Double – Check your application before submitting it. Don’t leave any lines blank. Put N/A when it doesn’t apply to you.

6 Helpful Hints (Cont) Collect all information and have written down before you go to get the application, sometimes you have to fill out at the business. Notify people that you are using them as a reference.

Crossed out items to make corrections Cursive writing instead of printing. Wrinkled or messy application form. Folded application Incomplete information Unanswered questions

Incomplete work history Failure to meet the application deadline Neglecting to sign the application Using red flag words like “quit,” “fired,” “personality conflict” Does not follow directions Large unexplained gaps in employment history

9 Illegal Questions on an Application
Height, weight Age, sex Marital Status Size of family Religion, politics Birthplace Race Handicaps

10 Exceptions An employer may ask you an off-limits questions if the topic has to do with your ability to do the job. Example: If you are applying a job that requires heavy lifting, may ask about your physical handicaps.

11 Things to Remember Use Full Names Know specific Job Titles
Put most recent job first Give positive remarks only Only get one copy don’t ask for more Never write “See Resume” Have information with you when you go to get application.

Two pens (blue/black), two pencils, an eraser, paper clips Current and previous address and SSN Educational Information- GPA, Dates attended, and Specific Classes Work Experience – names, addresses, and phone #, Dates of employment, job responsibilities, wages earned, names of supervisors, Business and Machine operation skills List of References

13 Application for Super Hero
Using the job that you picked to apply for with your Cover Letter Take an application from the round table and get out a pencil Work with your partner to discuss how to fill in the application. When done check it for errors - re-read common mistakes and make sure you have none. Then using a blue or black pen write over the writing you did in pencil. Then take an eraser and erase all pencil marking.

14 Your Application Assignment
You will have picked a job for your Cover Letter Using the same job fill out the application. When done put in the basket. I will put corrections on it and hand it back. Then correct errors and complete a FINAL (Perfect) copy of your Application and put in your Portfolio.
