VOLLEY BALL KAITLIN GRAF

VOLLEY BALL Volleyball is popular throughout the world. Over 800 million people play one of the many varieties of the game, It's great fun to play and exciting to watch.

Volleyball’s history began in in 1895 The sport was developed at the YMCA by William G. Morgan It was an alternative for the older men as an alternative to basketball ORIGINS

“Volleyball is a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which a ball is hit by hand over a high net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court” THE GAME

OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME The idea is to be the first team to reach 25 in both games of the 2 set of the match.

WHERE YOU CAN PLAY A typical Volleyball court is just 18 meters (59 feet) long and 9 meters (29.5 feet) wide Courts can be gym floors, sand, grass and many other surfaces

ROTATION All players must stay in the same rotation as when they entered the court until the ball is in play. On serve receive, once the ball is up you are free to move wherever. When you gain the serve back, the team moves clockwise and there is a new server.

RULES AND POINTS There are many rules in volleyball, but the main ones include 1.The team is only allowed 3 touches to get the ball back over 2.You cannot “carry” the ball 3.The serve must start outside the court 4.You cannot touch the net 5.The same player can only hit the ball once in a row If the ball lands out on opponents court, the team take more than three hits, carries the ball, or violates any other rules, it is the oppositions point.

Basics such as a top, shorts and running shoes are all that are required to play Move advanced players with have court shoes, ankle braces, and knee pads. ATTIRE

MOVES In a serve the player holds the ball in one hand and follows through to hit it with the other hand in an attempt to get it into the opponent's court. A spike is usually the third hit with an open hand. The object is to hit the ball down with your hand so that it lands on the opponent's court and cannot be defended. Blocking refers to the actions taken by players standing at the net to stop the opponent's spike A bump pass is the attempt by the team to receive an attack. A bump lands it the fore arm.

POSITIONS There area 6 players on the court in the game of volleyball. (2 lines of 3 players) 1.Outside hitters: spike the ball 2.2. Middle blockers: best at blocking the net. 3. Setters: pass it off to the middle or outside for a spike

INJURY Although volleyball is not necessarily a physical or rough sport, injuries occur all the time the ball can be hit very hard straight into you, there is a lot of falling and diving, and hitting the ball incorrectly are all things that can all lead to injury. sprained ankles, broken noses and broken hands are all common in the game of volleyball Ankle braces, mouth guards for some positions, knee pads and practice of moves are all precautions players take to avoid injury
