2 Overview Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William Morgan of Holyoke, Massachusetts Invented as an alternative to basketball Morgan borrowed the idea of hitting a ball back and forth over a net, from the game of tennis In 1928 the United Volleyball Association was formed The best teams compete for the Triple Crown, which entails winning the Olympic games, the World Cup and the World Championship

3 Social Skills and Etiquette Although competition is an integral part of the game, cooperation is just as important. Bump, Set, Spike The score should be announced before each serve. Players should return the ball by rolling it under the net. Play the ball only when it is near you to allow others a chance to play.
