History of volleyball How did volleyball start??? Did you know that the sport of volleyball was 100 years old? The sport was created by William G. Morgan, an instructor at the YMCA. This guy, decided to blend the elements of basketball, baseball, tennis and handball to create a game for his classes of businessman. This would demand less physical contact than basketball. He created the game of volleyball; at that time it was called ‘mintonette’. The game is called volleyball because the players are volleying the ball to the opponent and his teammates!

History of volleyball Milestone of volleyball 1895 – William G. Morgan created a game for his classes of businessman. 1896/7/7 – The first volleyball game was displayed at Springfield college. 1900 – A special ball for volleyball was created. After 1900, - YMCA spread volleyball to the other countries. 1955 – Pan American games included volleyball. 1960’s – New techniques added to the volleyball. Including soft spike, bump, blocking across the net, defensive diving and rolling.

The men won the Gold, and the women won the Silver. 1988 – The US repeated the Gold in the Olympics in Korea. 1994 – The first internet site for volleyball was created! ‘Volleyball World Wide’. 1996 – 2 person beach volleyball was added to the Olympics.

How to play volleyball?? Rules Brief descriptions -Volleyball is a sport which two different teams are separated by a net and each team tries to score their goal by hitting and the ball touches the ground. If one team serves to another team, the other team should toss the ball into the air after the serve. Then, the team members should try to pass the ball to smash the ball to the opponent (the ball should go over the net and touch the ground on the opponent’s ground. Warning : If you are defending, you should block to the front of your face so that you don’t get a fist on the face by the ball!

How to start off the game? Serves There are 3 types of serves. They are overhand, top-spin jump serve and jump float serve. Most of the time, you will do top-spin jump serve and jump float serve. Be careful not to get the ball caught in the net. The opponent will score a point.

How to defend and attack? If the opponent serves to you, you should be able to defend by blocking the ball with your arm, but you should clutch your arm together and let the ball bounce in the air. That’s called dig. After tossing the ball into the air, setter should set the ball up again so that you can smash the ball to the opponent. When a person set the ball into the air, another person should be ready to smash. But the person who set the ball into the air should be careful because if he/she did not set up high enough to smash, then there is not gonna be any smashing because the ball is too low. So, it’s impossible to smash properly.

Skills I have developed during the lesson During the lesson, I have learnt how to serve, defend and how to like dig, set something like that. So, how can I use these steps to win? So first, the opponent will serve to you. Then our defender will dig, then set the ball in the air and smash. But we cannot let the opponent block the ball from touching the ground. So how do we block the enemy from defending? The best way to do that is to smash where the opponent is not trying to block. But be careful not to hit on the outside of the line.

Thank you for watching!!!!
